I recommend downloading Firefox rather than using IE. It'll keep that new computer of yours a bit safer.

I concur with that advice. However, you might find, like I did, that you are unable to use the font and text color options etc in your hotmail account messages when running in Firefox. I use IE for the sole purpose of replying to emails in my hotmail account. Otherwise, it's all Mozilla Firefox! You can get a free download at http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

You'll also want some anti-spyware tools - I think it's recommended you have 2 different kinds because there is not one single program that catches everything. Here is a link to PCWorld.com and their download for Spybot Search and Destroy http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22262,00.asp
Or you can go right to the home of Spybot at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

Oh the joys of computer ownership! Hope you're enjoying your laptop - I am so jealous of that wireless networking though. . . and the highspeed internet. . . . I have dial-up currently, but I must say that it's not as bad as I remember it - that could be because my computer itself is faster than my other computer was when I last had dialup.

Love ya!

Wow...thanks for the advice you two!! I really appreciate it. However I have to tell you that I'm a step ahead of you this time...I bought the computer through a computer consultant my mom knows in Velva, ND. He downloaded Firefox onto it before he shipped it out to me. He put anti-spyware software on it for me as well. And Openoffice...and gave me all sorts of really helpful advice.
